14,000-ish
Tiny Apps < 1mb
|
First things first. The 15,027 files available here that fall within the size range of 1kb - 1mb are an extract from my Windows Freeware collection I've accumulated over the last 25+ years. I've always had an interest in small Freeware programs and there are certainly some interesting programs in this extract. I hope by making them available here that other people may discover and enjoy some of them and so they won't be lost to time when I cark it and this server goes belly up. These are all the smaller programs I have that are under 1mb in size. Some programs when unzipped may be larger than 1mb but I'm not about to search through nn,000 zip files to find out which ones they are. There are 15,027 files in total and allowing for some duplicates and possible theme files I'll take a guess and estimate there are likely more than 14,000 unique program exe/zip files. The files are 99% Windows programs - w3.1, w95-98-ME, 2K, XP, 7 - although there are a few MAC programs. I've just done an extract from the 6 Freeware directories on my NAS of exe/zip/rar/7z files and grouped them in the following size categories: Directory Size Files Folders 01kb-10kb 10mb 1292 380 11kb-100kb 207mb 4555 1072 101kb-200kb 321mb 2262 775 201kb-500kb 1.11gb 3543 1024 510kb-1mb 2.28gb 3375 1017 ALL_1kb-1mb 3.92gb 15027 1913 The DIR000-005 structure reflects the high level directory structure on my NAS (other than the fact my NAS names are a little more descriptive) and while it may not seem logical at first look, it reflects the various source PCs and laptops I've extracted the programs from over the last 25 years (there have been many). I imagine you'll get used to it. I've also cataloged the content of each of the 6 directories using Virtual Volumes View. You don't have to download the catalog as each rar file also has a pdf document that lists the contents of the archive - it's just that the Virtual Volumes View program provides a much easier interface than a pdf document. The Virtual Volumes View and catalogs are in the rar file "Shotter_Nails_Tiny_Apps_Catalogs_(VVV).rar". To view the catalogs you'll need to download the rar and extract the contents, then then run the program: "X-VirtualVolumesView.exe". By default it will load the catalog "Apps_Catalog_ALL_1kb-1mb" which has all 15,027 programs listed in directory structure similar to Windows Explorer. Use the "Open" function to load a different catalog. The 6 catalogs available in Virtual Volumes View are: Name Size Apps_Catalog_01-10kb.vvv 2.13 mb Apps_Catalog_011-100kb.vvv 3.47 mb Apps_Catalog_101-200kb.vvv 2.63 mb Apps_Catalog_201-500kb.vvv 3.17 mb Apps_Catalog_501kb-1mb.vvv 3.13 mb Apps_Catalog_ALL_1kb-1mb.vvv 7.23 mb Virtual Volumes View also has a search function and a nifty function that lets you create virtual views - you create a virtual folder and then add files to it from the catalog - kind of a favourites folder. Very usable and with built-in help. The apps are packaged in 6 archive files in rar format - see the next page for an explanation of what each archive file contains. Each of the rar archive files also has a pdf document that lists the contents of in the archive. ** Enough blah, take me to the downloads page ** |
