POLIT
Graphical User Interface for MS-DOS
This is POLIT by Ivan Kozak, a nice little DOS GUI bundled with some apps.
I'd originally viewed this as a demo but I've changed my opinion after a bit more testing.
It's in Ukranian language, but as it's quite simple a bit of playing around will make it clear as to what's what.
It seems to have been a hobby project that ended around 2005 as that's the last update on the website - which is still available at http://bespin.org/~polit/index.htm (googl translate will help).
It has built in Help and the windows can be moved and re-sized which is unexpected.
Multiple windows can be opened and the windows also appear as tabs on the menu bar.
Runs DOS apps from the File Manager - which is a dual pane file ,manager.
Also includes a Text Editor, Wave Player, Contact List, Calculator, Task Manager, Screensaver and a few other apps.
Quite good config options which includes various screen resolution options.
You can also run Windows 3.1 from the file manager.
The downside for some will be the language.
Response is very fast.
Generally, a nice little GUI project - unfortunate that it didn't go any further.
I've attached a .zip file with the VirtualBox VHD and another .zip file with the install files and a few image files that will help with any install.
There's also a .PDF with screenshots of POLIT from the author's site.
When you run the VHD in VirtualBox there's a prompt to continue and load POLIT, or quit to DOS.
If you quit to DOS you can run Windows 3.1 by typing WIN.
The VHD was created using VirtualBox 6.1.26 and the DOS version installed is 6.22 with Cute Mouse loaded.
