Why these pages exist: These pages are for some of the small Windows freeware programs I've accumulated over the last 25+ years, ranging from the micro (10kb and less) to the tiny (11kb-100kb) and the small (101kb-1mb). I've been something of a freeware collector during that time and I've a collection of around 100,000 programs (give or take the odd 1,000 or 3). I've always been intrigued by small Windows programs and how these could achieve the same result as programs 10 or 100 times their size. Mainly though, I admire the skill and discipline that's needed in creating very small yet functional programs. Uploading them here is also a way of helping to preserve them as many of these earlier programs are in danger of disappearing from the net. I had planned on putting the small programs I have on this site for download (~7,000 programs). However, I've decided to upload all programs I have that are less than 1mb - which is 15,027 (currently). I'm not going to do a comprehensive catalog of these as there are just too many but I will provide listings of all files that are included. It will be more of a straight extract of all .exe and .zip under 1mb from my NAS and then grouped into various size categories and made available on this site for download. The extract will include all the programs I have for DOS, w3.1, w9x, XP and w7 that fall into certain size groups. There will also be a smattering of MAC, CP/M, Acorn and RISC that I've accumulated over the years. And some small games. I may also create some collections of small programs for web browsers, image viewers and notepads. I've already uploaded my collection of file managers, DOS GUIs, boot managers and Windows 3.1 shells. All of my freeware is on my FTP site at: ftp://shotterftp21.mooo.com/ (login as "anonymous").
