Script Kiddy Fun - Highly
Compressed Windows

A couple of oddities from some script kiddies who must have thought it was fun at the time.

I found these 2 rar files yonks ago and never did anything with them.

The naming claims they are highly compressed versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

The rar file size of both is under 10MB and the ISO file inside each is 3.66GB.

However, if you extract both ISO files and run setup they both turn out to be Windows XP and Server 2003 upgrades.

Both ISO files are the same (from 2008) and they've been renamed as Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 and then re-packaged in rar files with some extra script kiddy blurbs from 2014.

Neither ISO will boot and the setup on them has to be run from within Windows.

The setup program displays a list of versions to install (upgrade) and there's also the option to create an ISO of each version.

I created one ISO (XP X64 Retail) to see if it would boot, but no luck.

Running the setup then from within Windows gives an error that setup is not valid for this machine type (I tried it in an x64 XP).

The help documentation on the ISO is useless, as while the html help files are varying file sizes, they all contain null values (x00).

Hmm . . . null . . . well stop your grinnin' and drop your linen . . .

Almost all the install files (that I've checked anyways) are null files.

While the files report what appears to be a valid file size, they're kind of stretching your leg a bit.

If you go to the Root directory in either of the ISO's and then open what I assume should be the install files for each ISO in the ENTC, ENTR, STDC, STDR, XPPC and XPPR all files that I've checked in both the AMD64 and I386 directories are actually null.

There are some files on the ISO that appear to be valid, but almost everything else is bogus.

So an ISO that reports it's size as 3.7GB is probably only 20MB as it's all smoke and mirrors.

These ISO's must have been as funny as heck back in the day.

Anyways, I'll leave them here so you can have a chuckle at script kiddy humour.
