11 Small
Windows XP Versions
Just for SnGs I've created a 3.2GB VirtualBox VHD that boots 11 small Windows XP versions (the zipped file size uploaded here is 1.2GB).
The XP versions in the VHD are (in no particular order):
- eXPerience Tiny Beast XP version
- eXPerience Micro XP 0.6b
- eXPerience Micro XP 0.82
- eXPerience Micro XP 0.84
- Smallest XP v1 by Pankoza
- Smallest XP v2 by Pankoza
- Nano Lite XP by Alexey
- Super Nano Lite XP by Alexey
- Chibi XP by NTVMB (29mb RAM)
- WinSlim modded Micro XP 0.6b
- Un-named modded Micro XP 0.6b
Apart from changing most desktop backgrounds from black to blue all versions are as found.
I've not installed any additional sound, video or network drivers so they may need updating - I'll leave that to you.
All of these will run fine with 512mb of RAM or less as most use around 30mb of RAM at idle.
Most versions have a lot of drivers, features, options and services removed (apart from Tiny Beast) so don't expect unlimited functionality.
Most are quite fast though and boot in around 10 seconds - with the exception of the 2 modded versions of Micro XP 0.6b which take almost 1 minute to boot (the modders may have removed slightly too many of the core components).
I probably could have cut this down by another 200mb with a smaller boot partition and no shared partition, but all-in-all, 3.2GB for 11 versions of XP is getting pretty close to the limit.
All XP versions are 32 bit and the VHD was created using VirtualBox 4.1.26.
No Guest Additions are installed as this would have made the VHD size rather large.
