DESQView

Graphical User Interface for MS-DOS

This is DESQView X v2.1 from 1995.

This is quite a large install (using 9 floppy images) and the responsiveness of the GUI is quite slow, perhaps as there may be a lot of processes active in the background.

I get the impression that this was a commercial product and targeted more towards (early) corporate rather than home use.

I think the corporate focus may also explain why it isn't particularly intuitive when it comes to adding programs from DOS.

DOS Programs can be added to the Applications window but I didn't see a way to create shortcuts on the desktop.

No programs are included other than a very simple File Manager and a few simple games.

It could be that this was the bees knees in 1995, but it's a pretty sluggish and bare bones GUI in terms of everyday functionality.

I've read of people having issues with the install, but it worked OK for me and nothing crashed and burned.

As a daily driver this one is a little too slow - but have a look and decide for yourself.

The GUI will load on startup. If you need to run it again just enter "DVX" at C:\.

As well as the VHD I've uploaded the install files in a zip.

The VHD was created using VirtualBox 6.1.26.
