FUN500Graphical User Interface for MS-DOS |
This is FUN500 GUI for DOS v6.3 from 2011. It's a rather simple GUI that seems to have been done by someone who had some programming experience, rather than a beginner seeing what they could achieve in Basic. Bundled with it are a File Manager, Paint program, Calculator, RSS reader and a Web Browser (QML) - and also a Text viewer that isn't shown as an option anywhere but is used to display file content. It also has a configuration utility that lets you change GUI colours and screen resolution, which is unusual for a hobbyist GUI. Runs DOS programs just fine from the File Manager window. The main drawback with this is that the font size is very small and becomes a bit of a pain to read - very quickly. Perhaps if you were running this native on a 17" display that wouldn't be so much of an issue but in a VM with the standard 640x480 screen resolution it's a bit of a pain. That aside, it's a pretty reasonable build of a simple yet functional GUI that doesn't seem to have gone ahead. The GUI will load on startup. If you need to restart it, cd to C:\FUN500 and run "cwsdpmi" first, then run "F56". As well as the VHD I've also uploaded a zip with the install files. If you want to install for yourself, it's a drag and drop install, so just drop the files into C:\FUN500. The VHD was created using VirtualBox 6.1.26. < Click here to download the VHD > < Click here to download the install files as a .zip > |
