DESKTOP 2Graphical User Interface for MS-DOS |
This is Desktop2 v2.62e by Felix Ritter (1998) - a 1mb DOS GUI that easily fits on 1 floppy. I think that for what it is, it's an absolute gem. In 1mb you get a DOS GUI with a decent dual pane File Manager, Help file, Calculator, CD Player, Text Editor and a Hex and Ascii Viewer. The system configuration is adequate with options for mouse, clock, file associations, general settings (including screen saver) and colours. Program groups and file shortcuts can be placed on the Desktop and run, and DOS programs can also be run from the File Manager. All in 1mb or less than 1 floppy disk - I don't know about you, but I'm impressed. And there's the added bonus of 1990's icons and font - what more could you want ? Everything ran well for me without any issues. I'd say a job well done, and an excellent little DOS GUI that's well worth trying. The GUI will load on startup as I've updated autoexec.bat. As well as the VHD I've also included a zip file and an ISO with the install files. The VHD was created using VirtualBox 6.1.26.
