BLUE OSGraphical User Interface for MS-DOS |
This is BLUE OS v1.6 by Day Corp (public domain since 2003) a very nicely done DOS GUI. This was a commercial product until Day Corp released it as public domain in 2003 (a mirror of the Day Corp site is here: https://dcsoft0.tripod.com/news.html). I'd rank it alongside Breadbox Ensemble in terms of form and functionality - interesting both were commercial. Quite a few programs are included - Text editor, Document Editor, Database, Paint, CD Player, Zip viewer, Games, Image Viewer, Icon Maker, and a decent File Manager. Has good system configuration options and an assortment of screen savers. Icons can also be re-arranged on the desktop. It's also easy to create desktop program groups and shortcuts and DOS programs can also be run from the File Manager. DOS programs and everything ran well for me without any issues. Like most of the other DOS GUIs I've tried so far you can't change the screen resolution from within BLUE, but that's not unusual. All up, another nice DOS GUI that's well worth trying. The GUI will load on startup as I've updated autoexec.bat. As well as the VHD I've also included a zip file with the install files. The VHD was created using VirtualBox 6.1.26. < Click here to download the VHD > < Click here to download the install files in a .zip > |
